Dying is easy, comedy is hard

Last night I went to The Stand comedy club in Glasgow to see my dear friend Stuart perform at the open mic night.  He was really good and has been giving himself a hard time as he thought he didn’t go down well.  The place was packed out and the crowd was noisy and chattered a lot while the acts were on.  I think the main problems were the general crowd noise and Stuart was holding the microphone a bit too far down and we couldn’t really hear him very well, plus a heckler interrupted one of his jokes and threw him off his stride.

Getting up on that stage must be petrifying and takes a lot of guts to do and I think Stuart should be proud of himself because all your friends that were there to support you are 🙂 Keep going, please don’t give up, you are AWESOME!

Not that I dislike tumblr, but instead I’m a posterous fan, using that to power my main ego-busting site at www.markbaillie.net

Working From Home

I am really lucky that I get to work from home and am really thankful that my company will allow me to do it from time to time.  As a Mum who works full time it does make my life much easier and gives me a lot of flexibility.

When I went back to work after having Beth in January 2008 I was extremely fortunate that my employer at the time allowed me to WFH 1 day a week and as such have always been disciplined in doing so.  When you work from home there can be a lot of distractions like the tv, housework, internet and not to forget the little person to look after, but we very quickly got into a good routine and still to this day when Mark or I work from home Beth is brilliant.  I always start work early then stop to have breakfast and sort her out with things to do then work around her routine and so far so good 🙂

Today I am working from home because I have a meeting with a client in Glasgow this afternoon, and yes, I know what you are thinking!

Aren’t you wasting time on the internet at the moment?

I can honestly say no I am not, I have stopped for some brekkie because I started working at 7:30 this morning 🙂

Hope you all have a great day!

What a weekend :)

It’s been another busy one in the Baillie household.

After a manic day at work on Friday I had a wee girlie night over at a friends house which was lovely to have a catch up and a good old gossip 🙂

Saturday

Beth was picked up by my in-laws in the morning to go for a day out so the boy and I decided to go for some shopping and lunch which was lovely. Then we got organised and headed into Glasgows West End which is new territory for us.

I had booked dinner for us in a little Italian bistro called Mimmos on Ashton Lane which had been recommended to me through a friend and it was gorgeous.  The food was lovely and really fresh and the staff were friendly and attentive, it wasn’t the cheapest of places but I think it was well worth it! then we went to a few different pubs to see what was about.  Now I am born and bred in Glasgow and have only been to the West End once so we did a wee bit of exploring and I must admit I always thought that end of town was a little bit pretentious, but having spent some time there my opinion has totally changed.

Mark and I were sitting outside a pub having a few drinks and chatting and both commented on how nice it was to sit outside and be in such nice surroundings without neds wandering about, there’s no way it would have been that nice and peaceful if we were sitting down Argyle Street end!

We went to a place called NUDE which was great, very funky inside and the tunes were brilliant, hats off to the dj 🙂

We left Ashton lane and jumped on the subway to get back to St Enochs and decided to go for another drink and we ended up in Hootenanny at St Enochs Square.  We went in and there was a guy sitting in the corner playing the guitar and singing and oh my god this dude had an excellent voice and as the pub was pretty empty was having great banter with the crowd.

One of the guys singing along caught my eye because he was the absolute double of Marks best friend William. His hair, beard even the way he was dressed was the exact same and we started chatting to him and he was cool guy. We had such a giggle in the there and then headed home and arrived back at the house about 2am and I was passed out cold by about 5 past!

Sunday

Beth had a birthday party at 11am so we were up and out early to get her picked up and dressed, why I thought going to a party with 20 sugared up toddlers was a good idea with a hangover I will never know but Beth had a great time and it was nice to finally meet some of the kids and their parents.

We all came home from the party, had a quick pit stop at my Mums and then came home for a nap 🙂

I have just caught up on the finale of Doctor Who and I totally loved it!  I was devastated when David Tennant announced he was leaving and thought DW would be rubbish but I am so pleased to say that I have loved this series and Amy Pond is the best companion yet!

This weekend has been mad busy as usual but Mark and I had a great night out and was worth the sore head this morning!

Hope you all had a great weekend too 😀

Welcome

I am rubbish at blogging, there I said it!

I have started loads of different blogs over the years with great intentions of keeping them up to date and I never, ever do!

So I have decided that now is the time to start a new one (yay) cos I clearly have so much free time on my hands 🙂

So a little bit of info about me:

My name is Clare and I am married to Mark and we have a gorgeous little girl called Beth who is nearly 3!  I am a HR guru and have just started a new job which is far away from where I live but the job is awesome so I don’t mind the travel too much 🙂

I am really close to my family, especially my Mum and sisters Eileen and Louise and all the extended Aunts, Uncles and cousins etc.  I am also really blessed to have such wonderful friends and I would truly do anything for any of them.

I don’t have a lot of spare time and I don’t really have many hobbies to speak of but I really enjoy cooking and baking and am a bit of a clean freak, I have been criticised for being so manic about it in the past but I would rather be like that than live in a midden!

The aim of this new blog is to record what’s going on my life, between the early starts and late finishes of work, running a home and being a Mum to a very active 3 year old I sometimes feel like weeks fly past and I can’t remember what went on in them.

Ps Here is a wee picture of the main reason why I do all my mental running about!
